URL Shortener
Short links on your own domain, with routing and measurement built in.
A short link is the smallest piece of infrastructure you own in a campaign. It decides where someone lands, what you learn about the visit, and whether you can change your mind later. ShortFreeURL gives you that link on your own domain, with automatic SSL, targeting rules, an editable destination and a per-click log behind it.
Your domain, not ours
Connect any domain or subdomain you control and every link you create can live on it. You point a DNS record at us, we issue and renew the TLS certificate automatically, and the domain is ready to use within minutes. There is no manual certificate step and nothing to renew by hand.
A branded domain matters for two reasons that have nothing to do with vanity. The first is trust: people can see who is asking them to click. The second is control. If a link lives on a domain you own, you keep the ability to move it, redirect it or retire it even if you change tools later.
- Unlimited custom domains and subdomains on the paid plan
- Automatic certificate issue and renewal, including on apex domains
- A main-page redirect so the bare domain sends visitors somewhere useful
- A custom 404 destination that recovers traffic from mistyped links
- Per-domain defaults for status code, expiry and UTM values
Slugs you can read and change
Every link has a short code. You can type your own, let the system generate a random one, or ask for an AI-suggested slug based on the destination page, which tends to produce something readable rather than a string of characters nobody can dictate over the phone.
Short codes are editable after creation, and so are destinations. Editing a slug keeps the click history attached to the link, so a rename does not reset your reporting. Editing a destination means a printed or already-shared link can be repointed at a new page without reprinting anything.
- Custom, random or AI-suggested slugs
- Rename a slug without losing analytics
- Repoint a live link at a new destination at any time
- Case handling and reserved-word checks to avoid collisions
Routing rules behind one URL
One short URL can behave differently depending on who opens it. Geo targeting works at three levels — country, region or state, and city — so a single link on a poster can send visitors to the storefront, branch or language edition that applies to them. Device targeting splits iOS, Android and desktop, and mobile deep links open your native app instead of the mobile web page when the app is installed.
Rules are evaluated in order and always fall back to a default destination, so a visitor from an unmatched location or an unexpected device still lands somewhere sensible rather than on an error.
- Country, region and city targeting from one link
- Separate destinations for iOS, Android and desktop
- Deep links that open the app, with a web fallback
- A/B testing across up to ten destinations with sticky assignment
- Choice of 301, 302, 307 or 308 status code per link
Campaign tagging without the spreadsheet
The UTM builder is part of the link editor rather than a separate tool. You set source, medium, campaign, term and content, save the combinations your team actually uses, and apply them consistently. Folder-level defaults mean a new link created inside a campaign folder inherits the right tagging automatically.
Because tagging is applied at the link rather than typed into the destination by hand, the same campaign never arrives in your analytics tool under three different spellings.
- Saved UTM presets shared across the team
- Folder defaults applied to every new link in that folder
- Existing query parameters on the destination are preserved
- Bulk apply or correct tagging across thousands of links
Controls for links that should not live forever
Not every link is meant to be permanent. You can expire a link on a date, after a number of clicks, or a set period after creation, and send anyone who arrives afterwards to a fallback page instead of a dead end. Password protection puts a branded gate in front of a link when the destination is not for everyone.
For sensitive destinations there are encrypted links, where the destination is decrypted in the browser and is not readable from our side, and referrer hiding, which stops the destination from seeing where the traffic came from.
- Expire by date, click count or age, with a fallback URL
- Password gate on a page styled to match your brand
- Link cloaking to keep your short URL in the address bar
- Encrypted destinations and referrer hiding for private shares
Built for volume and for teams
Links can be created one at a time, pasted in bulk from a sheet, imported from a CSV or XLSX file, migrated from an existing Bitly account, or created through the REST API. Whichever route you use, the same features apply — there is no reduced feature set for bulk or API-created links.
Organisations can hold several teams, each with its own domains, folders and members. Roles run from owner and admin through to standard user and read-only, and permissions can be applied per link where a specific link needs tighter handling.
- CSV and XLSX import and export, plus Bitly migration
- REST API with tokens, rate limits and full feature parity
- Webhooks that stream click events into your own systems
- Tags and query-syntax search across large link libraries
Questions
Do I need my own domain to start?
No. You can create links on a shared domain immediately and connect your own later. Existing links keep working; new ones can be created on the branded domain as soon as DNS resolves.
What happens to my links if I stop paying?
Redirects for existing links continue to resolve. Plan limits apply to new creation and to some advanced features, but we do not break links that people have already shared or printed.
Can I change where a link goes after I have shared it?
Yes. The destination is an editable field. The short URL and its click history stay the same, which is the main reason to use a short link on printed material at all.
Is there a limit on how many links I can create?
Plan limits apply, and they are published on the pricing page rather than negotiated. Bulk creation and the API draw from the same allowance as the dashboard.
How fast are the redirects?
Redirects are served from a cache-first path that is separate from the dashboard, so a lookup does not wait on the main application. The redirect path stays available even during dashboard maintenance.
Can I import links I already have elsewhere?
Yes, from CSV or XLSX, and there is a dedicated Bitly import that brings across short codes and destinations so existing shares keep resolving once you move the domain.
