What it does with ShortFreeURL

ShortFreeURL exposes an MCP endpoint with four tools: create_link, search_links, link_analytics and domain_analytics. Any assistant that speaks MCP can call them, which means you can ask for a branded link in the middle of a conversation instead of switching windows and pasting URLs back and forth.

The server acts with the permissions of the API key you give it. A key scoped to one domain limits the assistant to that domain — a sensible precaution, because an assistant creating links on your main branded domain because it misread an instruction is a real failure mode.

Setting it up

  1. Open Integrations → MCP server in the dashboard. A scoped API key is minted for you and the exact client configuration is printed.
  2. Paste the configuration into your assistant's MCP client settings.
  3. Send a GET to the MCP endpoint to check the connection — it answers with the server name, version and tool list.
  4. Ask the assistant to create a link. It appears in your links table marked as created by automation.

Questions

Which transport does the server use?

HTTP with JSON-RPC. A GET on the endpoint returns the server description and tool list, which is the fastest way to test a client.

Can I tell which links an assistant created?

Yes. Every link records its source, so automation-created links are distinguishable from dashboard-created ones.
